Norwich<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018<\/strong>A Fine City\u2019, according to\nthe signs which welcome you on the way in, Norfolk\u2019s county town is\nconsistently ranked highly in the Sunday Times\u2019 annual Best Places to Live\nlist. It boasts two cathedrals (one Anglican, one Catholic), a Norman castle\nwith a famous museum, and a host of narrow city centre streets which are rich in\nhistorical interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are plenty of more modern attractions, too \u2013 a huge outdoor market and the biggest city centre Marks & Spencer outside London, plus new shopping and public exhibition hubs in Chapelfield and The Forum. Food-lovers visit the city\u2019s Tombland area for a spot of alfresco dining, while beer-lovers should find one of the city\u2019s many microbreweries has something to their taste.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wymondham<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This south Norfolk market town might not seem an obvious candidate as one\nof the most popular places in the county to move to, but it has plenty going\nfor it. \u2018Windham\u2019, as it\u2019s pronounced, benefits from good transport links \u2013\nNorwich, around 10 miles to the north, is a short drive up the A11, while the\ntown is also on the Cambridge-Norwich rail line. Wymondham station featured in\nthe classic BBC TV comedy series \u2018Dad\u2019s Army\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The town also has a 900-year-old abbey and a 15th<\/sup> century pub (The Green Dragon). Much of central Wymondham dates back to the 17th<\/sup> century, following a huge fire which destroyed large parts of the town. Shoppers come from far and wide for the weekly market, and Wymondham was one of the first towns in England to hold a regular farmers\u2019 market as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aylsham<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This small town is just under 10 miles to the north of Norwich, meaning\nthe north Norfolk coast is less than half an hour\u2019s drive away. Aylsham boasts\na good mix of independent shops and big-name stores, and the market operates\nevery Monday and Friday. There isn\u2019t a mainline railway station, but visitors\ncan enjoy a trip on the Bure\nValley Railway, a narrow-gauge steam railway which runs through to the Norfolk\nBroads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The town\u2019s marketplace is owned by the National Trust, and forms part of the Blickling Hall estate. This fine Jacobean home and its gardens are less than two miles from the town and are regularly open to the public. Aylsham is also one of five Cittaslow towns in the UK, which means it is internationally recognised for its high quality of life and community spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blakeney<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it put Blakeney on its list of popular places to move to, the Sunday\nTimes pointed to its busy village hall as a good indicator of a thriving\ncommunity. But this north Norfolk resort has plenty more going for it too. It\u2019s\nin the heart of a national nature reserve and makes an ideal base from which to\nexplore the rest of the county\u2019s coastline. You can take a boat trip out to see\nthe nearby seal colonies, or just enjoy a brisk walk along the seafront. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village itself has lots of picture-postcard flint cottages, and there are plenty of pubs, gift shops and art galleries to visit.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wells-next-the-Sea<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is just\nunder 10 miles west of Blakeney, and it is also a great place for\nwildlife-spotters as bitterns, avocets, winter geese and marsh harriers can all\nbe seen here. Its award-winning beach stretches for miles and miles, and the\ntown is big enough to sustain its own fishing industry, with crabbing and\ncommercial angling vessels operating out of the Quay and Harbour. You can\nalways have a go at catching your own crabs, too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The town has\nplenty of independent and traditional shops, most of which are located in\nStaithe Street. And every summer there\u2019s a carnival, with a poetry festival in\nthe autumn, while the North Norfolk triathlon also starts and finishes on in\nthe town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
